Because you have no money, you borrowed Php50 from your sister and another Php50 from your brother. You now have in your pocket a total cash of Php100.
Since the shirt was only worth Php97, you still got a change of Php3. You returned the Php1 to your sister and the other Php1.00 to your brother. That leaves you with Php1. And you still owe your sister Php49 and your brother Php 49.
Now here is the question:
PhpP49+Php49.00 = Php98 plus Php1 in your hands equals Php99.
The total money is Php100.

The Phrase “ Where is the Missing Peso” is a ploy to lead you brain to think something is missing.
We start with the total money we have, which is Php100. We bought Php97 worth of T-shirts, paid back to Bro and Sis Php2 and we are left with Php1. Total of Php100.
Strictly speaking I cannot add Php49 and Php49 +Php1 because the two Php49’s are my liabilities while the Php1 is an asset. The accountant’s way of looking at it is:
Total Liabilities = Total Assets+ Equity
Php49+Php49 = Php97 +Php1
Php98=Php98
The act of paying Php1 each to Bro and Sis reduces the cash I have on hand By Php2… (Thus reducing the totals on each side by Php2 each)
